Connecting student support with graduate opportunity

Disabled Student Futures helps universities strengthen the connections between disability services, academic teams, work experience/placement seems, careers provision and employer engagement. Our focus is the student journey: access and participation during study, preparation for recruitment and the move into graduate employment.

Universities already hold substantial expertise in student support and careers. We help teams examine where these services connect, where responsibilities are unclear and where disabled students may encounter avoidable barriers.

  • Inclusive teaching and assessment — examining reasonable adjustment processes, communication and practical access.

  • Disclosure and repeated proof — understanding why students may not seek support and how institutional processes affect trust.

  • ADHD, mental health and student experience — building understanding and recognising the limits of staff roles.

  • Recognising distress and responding appropriately — using established support and referral routes.

  • From EDI policy to team behaviour — addressing ableist assumptions and the gap between institutional commitments and daily practice.

  • Inclusive careers and employer engagement — connecting student support with recruitment preparation and graduate opportunities.

Our lead review examines how disability support, academic provision, careers services and employer engagement work together. The agreed scope can include policy and process analysis, staff conversations, student consultation, selected materials and mapping of the student journey.

Outputs can include concise findings report, a prioritised action plan, recommendations for service coordination, named responsibilities and a review timetable. Recommendations distinguish immediate improvements from changes requiring additional planning or resources.

Delivery and follow through

Support can take the form of a keynote talk, staff briefing, student workshop or linked programme. Learning outcomes and measures of progress are agreed with the university, alongside delivery and accessibility arrangements.
